Breathing New Life into an Old Media Center for Argos Community Schools

Argos Community Schools had a not so unique problem with their decades old Media Center.  Kids didn’t use the space. This large open concept room had many unused wall shelving units placed around the room and a lowered center section. This lowered section not only divided the space but created an area that was not ADA compatible.  Lee Company met with the Superintendent to brainstorm on what could be done to freshen up the area and make it more inviting to the students.

The first decision was to level the entire floor making the room one level.  This allowed the school to think of this as a new large group instruction room as well as a public space for after school activities.  After this decision was made, Lee Company worked with the team at Mien to come up with the best use of space.  The ideas brought forward were creating multiple pod seating spaces that students could work in small groups but have the flexibility to be used as a classroom if needed.  The team also worked with the school to coordinate the colors to match the carpet and the paints that had been started in the other parts of the building.

What came of the space is a showplace for not only the school but the community.  This space has been transformed to a new and modern space that can be used by all the grade levels.
